Procedure for Adolescent therapy session

Sessions for under 18s are slightly different than an adult therapy session.

When a parent gets in touch on behalf of their child, I will take some brief notes and advise that it is important to get consent from both parents/guardians to proceed.

Once an appointment is arranged, the following steps will follow:

·         An email confirming appointment date and time will be sent to the parents/guardians.

* In the same email, I will add a consent form and a contract.

*  I will also add to the email 2 questionnaires, one to be completed by the youngster and the other by the parent(s)/guardian(s).

·         One or both parents will attend the first session with the child. Usually, this session can take 75 minutes. I typically try to gather family history and to better understand the presenting issue.

·         At the end of the session, if the child wants, they can have a few minutes alone with me

·         Only the youngster will attend therapy sessions; if they wish, their parent can be present or can join the session at the end.

·         A review session takes place after 6 sessions, and the parent will be invited to attend the session to be briefed.
